Pin Parvati Pass Trail

Pin Parvati Pass Trail,Himachal ToursAt the northern fringes of the lush green Kullu valley an offshoot valley extends into the neighbouring hi-altitude desert region of Spiti in north east Himachal Pradesh. The trail goes along the periphery of the Great Himalayan National Park and after crossing the Pin Parvati Pass descends into the Pin Valley of Spiti district.

Day 01: We welcome you on your arrival at the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi and escort you to your hotel where you stay overnight.

Day 02: Drive to Kullu.

Day 03: Drive from Kullu to Naggar from we trek to the village of Rumsu at 2060m / 6756ft. The trail goes along a main bridle path, before branching uphill through coniferous forest.

Day 04: Rumsu - Camp below Chanderkhani Pass at 3200m / 10,496ft. A 5 hour ascent. . The trail goes through coniferous forest and meadows, and afford a bird's eye view of the Kullu Valley. Stunning panoramas of the snow-capped Dhauladhar Range and the twin Gephan peaks in Lahaul can be seen.

Day 05: Base camp Chanderkhani Pass over the Pass - 3650 m / 11,972ft. to Malana village at 2650m / 8692ft a walk of about 6 hours. The trail crosses a series of pastures, before a steep climb to the pass, marked by prayer flags and cairns. Breathtaking views of the upper Malana valley and numerous high peaks including White sail at 6446m / 21,142f and Papsura - 6451m / 21,1569ft. The inhabitants of Malana speak their own dialect and are supposed be the descendants of the lost armies of Alexander the Great.

Day 06: Malana - Rashol pass - 3260m / 10,692ft to Kasol - 1580m / 5182ft. 7 Hours. A steep ascent through forested hillside to the pass from where the trail leads down to Rashol village before descending to Kasol.

Day 07: Kasol - Pulga - 2100m / 6888ft. A 5 hour walk. The trail winds past small villages passing the small pilgrimage hamlet at Manikaran, a holy place for Sikhs and Hindus, where we can bathe in the sulphur hot springs. Just before Pulga, the ascent goes through pine forest.

Pin Parvati Pass Trail,Himachal ToursDay 08: Pulga - Khirganga - 2850m / 9348ft. A 5 hour walk. Along the Parbati River, the route crosses woody and verdant areas. Before reaching Khirganga, we pass a particularly impressive waterfall which requires a steep ascent to a crossing high above the side gorge.

Day 09: Khirganga - Tunda Bhuj - 3200m / 10,496ft. A 5 hour walk. Steady ascend out of the gorge after which the valley widens and the trail crosses several beautiful pastures full of colorful wildflowers. The waterfalls tumbling down the cliffs on the opposite side of the valley are quite impressive.

Day 10: - Tunda Bhuj - Thakur Khan - 3400m / 11,152ft. A 5 hour trek. The trail goes through rocks and dense vegetation, then descends to the river bank.

Day 11: Thakur Khan - Mantalai Lake - 4070m / 13,349ft. An ascent of 6 hours. The trail passes several Gaddi encampments, then ascends gradually through a series of flowered meadows.

Day 12: Mantalai Lake - High Camp - 4550m / 14,924ft. A steep ascent of about 7 hours. After crossing the outer streams on the true right of the valley to the terminal moraine, we follow a straightforward trail through the boulders. The climb affords a bird's eye view of the Parbati Valley while directly below, the Parbati river gushes out of the main glacier. There are magnificent views of the surrounding peaks including Pyramid Peak - 6036m / 19,798ft and Snow Peak - 5640m / 18,4992ft.

Day 13: High Camp - Pin Parbati Pass - 4810m / 15,776ft to Pin Valley Camp. A five hour walk. After a steep 200 metre ascent over boulders , the trail goes through a large snowfield. The pass is marked with rock cairns and prayer flags. The alpine views to the snow-capped ranges towards the Kullu Valley contrast with the barren mountain ridges which stretch east towards Spiti. The descent from the pass to the campsite is gradual.

Day 14: Pin Valley Camp - Mud - 3600m / 11,808ft. A steady walk of about eight hours. Halfway on the trail we reach a small plateau above the valley floor which marks the upper limit of the grazing pastures for the shepherds from Mud, a village located beneath a huge cliff face.

Day 15: Mud - Sangam - 3500m / 11,480ft. Five hours. A gradual walk through Spiti valley through a vast barren landscape remarkably similar to the Tibetan terrain.

Day 16: Drive from Sangam to Kyato - 3960m / 12,988ft. Drive all the way across the Spiti Valley passing Kaza the non descript capital and the dramatically located Ki Monastery.

Day 17: Drive to Manali. Surrounded by snowy mountain peaks,, this picturesque town is at the northern end of the Kullu Valley also known as the Valley of Gods. Check into your hotel for the night.

Day 18: Visit Old Manali, Hadimba Temple and Vashsisht village known for its hot sulphur springs. Take the evening overnight bus to Delhi.

Day 19: After arriving in Delhi check into your hotel in the morning. Day at leisure.

Day 20: Transfer to the international airport for your flight back home
